2004
While Max Neuhaus's 2004 Auracle project was built primarily using Pure Data (Pd) and Java/JSyn, Cycling '74's Max/MSP serves as a key parallel industry standard and historical cousin to the technologies employed by Neuhaus. The connection between Pd and Max/MSP: The relationship between Neuhaus's work and Max/MSP is rooted in their shared creator, Miller Puckette: Pure Data (Pd): The Neuhaus team chose Pd for Auracle's audio engine because it was open-source and easily integrated into the Transjam/JSyn server architecture. Max/MSP: Max/MSP is the commercialized graphics version of the same logic. Many of the Auracle project's contributors (and the researchers cited in your previous questions, such as Chris Brown and Álvaro Barbosa) used Max/MSP for their individual projects "Displaced Soundscapes" and "Eternal Network Music."
