Max Neuhaus

2002
2002 - 900 KILOS of percussion equipment - Max Neuhaus, 20 feb.

There is a 900 kilo combo at the Museum of Modern Art. Big drums and small, cow bells, speakers, tam-tam, vibes, salad bowls of pressed wood, Indian bells, wooden lids, etc. They hang, lay, and stand on tripods, together with plenty of screws and hooks. It took a while to put it together.
This says Max Neuhaus, well known percussion player and instrument constructor all in one person. A 26 years old guy from Texas who is working in a similar way as David Tudor and John Cage. Who has become known and acknowledged as one of the iinovators.
An interpeeter who helps to break up from the old.

The composer's role and world of today Have changed fundamentally.

The only one who haan't noticed it is the public. At tonight's solo concert in Fylkingens auspices at the Museum of Modern Art Max Neuhaus shall mix pieces and combine them into one unit. One piece of Cage, another of Robert Moran, another by James Tenney.
It will not be an itemized program but compositions or pieces of compositions shall go in and out of each other according to certain guiding scheme in the program.
Light effects in varied colors and projections in shape of scores will be followed up. the object is a total effect. Total Has been the word and it appears with even sequences in theatre, music, dance and art. Totality is something we can expect more of in artistic connections.
