Max Neuhaus

2014 - Avril. Gilles Malatray. EXPÉRIENCES SENSIBLES ET DÉAMBULANTES Relevés de balades sonores – carnets de notes Expériences d'écoutes en marches.

In its 2014 release, Gilles Malatray, creator of the Desartsonnants project, explores the practice of art in movement through the prism of the pioneering work of Max Neuhaus.
Malatray's approach, documented in these booklets of notes, is the author of several axes that have influenced the American artist.

In his April 2014 publication, Expériences sensibles et déambulantes, sound artist and researcher Gilles Malatray uses the figure of Max Neuhaus to ground the practice of "soundwalking" in contemporary art.
Malatray’s notebooks frame Neuhaus as the pioneer who transformed the listener into a pedestrian explorer.
Malatray references Neuhaus’s 1966 LISTEN works, where Neuhaus stamped the word "LISTEN" on the hands of participants and led them through industrial soundscapes. Malatray views this as the birth of the active, walking listener.
