In 1984, the French association Catalog Ecoute, in partnership with RATP, published a catalog for a potential Max Neuhaus sound work at the Montparnasse–Bienvenüe Métro station in Paris. The work itself was never realized
Background on the project
- Publication: The catalog, Max Neuhaus: Montparnasse - Bienvenüe Réalisation, was published in 1984.
- Artist's intent: Neuhaus intended for the sound piece to be an ambient and subtle intervention in the station, using sound to alter the perception of the urban environment, similar to his other "place works".
- Reason for non-realization: While the reasons for the cancellation are not publicly detailed, the project appears to have been proposed and documented rather than physically installed.
- Other Paris works: While this particular work was never realized, Neuhaus did exhibit in Paris and other parts of France during the 1980s, including an installation at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris
