UNDERWATER MUSIC(S)
These works deal with the sensation of hearing in water.
Between 1971 and 1974, a number of short installations or performances (6 to 15 hours were done in swimming pools heated to body temperature
("Water Whistle" 1-1 7) All of the sounds in these pieces were made by running water through small whistles, installed in various configurations underwater. Each work was made by choosing a set of whistles and whistle locations for each pool, and each grew out of the individual acoustic characteristics due to their differing underwater shape and size. Another series is now being developed utilizing underwater loudspeakers and electronically generated sounds.
