Max Neuhaus

1963
1963 - Stockhausen's famous "Zyklus" on a free concert of Avant-garde music in Texas Southern University's Main Auditorium, Wheelern Tierwester.

The Piece: Zyklus (1959) is a graphically scored work for one percussionist using 21 instruments arranged in a circle. Neuhaus was one of the few percussionists in the world capable of performing it at the time, specifically choosing to perform it spontaneously rather than from a pre-written realization.
This performance occurred during Neuhaus's tenure as a premier interpreter of contemporary music, shortly after he completed his Master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music.
