1959
On November 19, 1959, Max Neuhaus performed in the world premiere of Lou Harrison’s Concerto for the Violin with Percussion Orchestra at Carnegie Recital Hall (now Weill Recital Hall) in New York City.
Neuhaus was a member of the Paul Price Percussion Ensemble. At the time, he was a student of Paul Price at the Manhattan School of Music.
The performance featured the renowned violinist Anahid Ajemian, for whom the work was specifically written.
Harrison's Concerto for the Violin with Percussion Orchestra (also titled in Esperanto as Koncerto por la violono kun percuta orkestra) is known for its use of "found objects" such as garbage cans, clock coils, and brake drums alongside standard percussion.
