Program & Premieres
The Manhattan School of Music Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Paul Price, presented a dense program of technical milestones:
Gardner Read: Los Dioses Aztecas (World Premiere). This large-scale, seven-movement work is considered one of Read’s most ambitious, evoking Aztec deities through complex rhythmic layers.
Frank Bencriscutto: Rondeau for Percussion (NYC Premiere).
Ernst Krenek: Marginal Sounds. A repeat performance of the work premiered in February, highlighting the ensemble's dedication to Krenek’s serialist techniques.
Henry Cowell: Ostinato Pianissimo.
Michael Colgrass: Chamber Music for Percussion Quintet.
