1961
Max Neuhaus earned his Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree in 1961 from the Manhattan School of Music. By January of that year, his career as an avant-garde percussionist was already well underway.
Student recital, January 1961
On January 16, 1961, Neuhaus participated in a concert at Town Hall in New York City with a group of percussionists from the Manhattan School of Music, conducted by his teacher Paul Price. The concert included performances of compositions by Edgar Varèse and Henry Cowell. The recital repertoire reflected his passion for experimental music and the work of avant-garde composers who used percussion as their primary medium.
