Toccata for Percussion Instruments (1942) by Mexican composer Carlos Chávez is one of the most famous early 20th-century works written exclusively for percussion. It is noted for its classical structure (three movements) and its requirement of a wide array of instruments, ranging from drums and glockenspiel to marimbas and gongs.
