Max Neuhaus

1968
1968 - June. Earle Brown, Four Sistems - For Four Amplified Cymbals, Columbia Records Studios, New York City. duration: 05'02"

This version was featured on the influential LP Electronics & Percussion - Five Realizations by Max Neuhaus (Columbia Masterworks, MS 7139).
Unlike his 10-minute Cologne performance, this studio version was condensed to 5'02", showcasing a more concentrated exploration of the score's graphic density.
Neuhaus utilized four amplified cymbals and contact microphones. By manipulating the proximity of the cymbals to the speakers, he created controlled feedback and "singing" metallic drones that transformed the percussion instrument into an electronic oscillator.
