On December 6, 1960, Max Neuhaus performed as a member of the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Percussion Ensemble at the Central High School Auditorium in New York City. The ensemble was directed by Paul Price, a pioneering figure in the development of the percussion ensemble as a serious concert medium. 
This performance featured a diverse program of contemporary percussion music, with Neuhaus managing a complex array of instruments for each piece:
