In 2016, artist Christine Sun Kim performed (LISTEN), a participatory soundwalk that reimagined Max Neuhaus’s seminal 1966 work LISTEN for its 50th anniversary. While Neuhaus originally led participants through the Lower East Side to focus on urban environmental sounds, Kim—who is Deaf—shifted the perspective to explore sound as a multisensory, conceptual, and political experience.
