1978 - sound art event in, part of "Water Whistle" series. Marnixbad in Amsterdam, specific, temporary underwater. September 27 to 30.

Max Neuhaus's connection to the Marnixbad in Amsterdam was for a specific, temporary underwater sound art event in 1978, part of his "Water Whistle" series.
"Under water music(s) / Water whistle"
The event was held at the public swimming pool Marnixbad (officially the Marnix Sportcentrum) in Amsterdam.
It was an accompanying event to a sound installation exhibition at the nearby de Appel arts centre, which ran from September 27 to 30, 1978.
Visitors were instructed to bring their bathing suits to experience the sound while floating in the pool. The sound was only audible underwater.
Neuhaus was interested in how sound is perceived differently in water, noting it travels faster and changes our sense of location, allowing the whole body to "hear". The installation used a network of hoses and "whistle-like devices" to create continuous sound textures.
